District Assessment System

AssessmentThe purpose of the District Assessment System is to provide ongoing opportunities for students to demonstrate levels of proficiency in relation to the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards. The State of Wyoming uses this definition of assessment: Assessment is the process of gathering evidence of student learning to inform education-related decisions. The district uses a variety of assessment types to provide this evidence of student learning.

Components of the District Assessment System:

State Assessments:
  • WY-TOPP: WY-TOPP is the state assessment required for all students in grades 3-10 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, Science is assessed at grade 4, 8, and 10.
  • ACT: The state requires all students in grade 11 to take the ACT.

District Assessments:
  • FASTBRIDGE: The district requires all students in grades K-11 to take the FastBridge test. FastBridge screens and monitors skills in reading and math. It allows schools to identify at-risk students and provide supports needed to help close learning gaps.

School Assessment Systems: The school assessments are the primary "vehicle" to determine student levels of performance for each class or course. Throughout the school year, students get multiple opportunities to demonstrate what they understand, know and are able to do in the context of the Wyoming standards. Results of school assessments are documented through PowerSchool and are available for students and parents to see throughout the year.

Assessment in Reading and Math:
The following chart shows the comprehensive assessment systems for reading and math as defined through the MTSS Framework. This defines how the various assessment types work together to adjust instruction to meet student needs.
